白川郷 Shirakawa-go ~ Feel the old Japanese

Shirakawa-go is part of the region of Gifu Prefecture.

There are characteristic buildings ‘Gassho-zukuri’ .

Gassho-zukuri  is a house with a steep rafter roof.

It is architecture with principal ridgepole.

Gassho means fit both hands.



 
Shirakawa-go is a region very often snow.
Steep roof of Gassho-zukuri is very efficient to eliminate the rain or snow .

This architecture is all wooden, but the nails are rarely used.
